Ryan Deardorff was originally hired to do "HTML" work on the site - finding and fixing broken links and images, as well as other general maintenance tasks. Given an opportunity to learn CGI scripting, however, he soon discovered the miracles of a language called Perl, and immediately succumbed to it's philosophy: "Laziness, Impatience, Hubris." In other words, why do by hand what you can teach a machine to do for you? He has since written a series of scripts which monitor and track the evolution of the site, reporting those pesky typos that lead to broken links and images. He is also responsible for the Windows to the Universe Search, as well as the Educational Standards Keyword Search.
