I am the programmer for Windows to the Universe. I do a lot of CGI and PHP scripting for the site itself and to support the work of content developers. I joined the team in December 2002 after Ryan Deardorff moved on to another project. I'm very happy to be a part of this exciting project.
I was born and went to college in Moscow, Russia. My undergraduate degree was in Applied Mathematics, and I have worked with computers since high school, starting from stone-age behemoths. I've immigrated to the U.S. in 1992 and received a Ph.D. in mathematics from the Ohio State University in 1999. My dissertation research was about fractals. In the meantime, World Wide Web appeared and I became fascinated with it. The need for instant gratification, which was absent in my academic work, finally made me go back to programming.
Besides math and computers, I enjoy reading, writing poetry, doing ceramics, hiking, traveling, arguing about politics and of course all things Russian. Some of my favorite vacations included hitchhiking in Europe, archaeological digs in Southern Russia, hiking in the mountains of Siberia, Crimea, Montana and so on. I am looking forward to doing all this with my family when my son is a little older.
