Susan Foster

I love to build bridges between research and education communities. I serve as deputy director of UCAR Office of Education and Outreach (UCAR). This exciting place enables me to work with scientists at the National Center for Atmospheric Research, UCAR educators, and external partners to develop weather, climate, and Earth system science education programs, exhibits, public tours, community outreach events, professional development workshops, and web sites. I continuously draw on my previous experiences which include teaching elementary school, middle school (Oceanography), and high school (Biology and Chemistry). I have also directed several nonprofit environmental education organizations whose programs connect children, families, educators, and policy makers to the natural world and sustainability issues. A BA in Zoology and MA degrees in both Secondary Education and in Biology provide me with a good foundation for the work that I do. In my recreational hours, I enjoy reading, hiking, river running, painting, and gardening with and without my family.
