Standard Salinity Profile |
In this profile, salinity at the surface is high (evaporation at this latitude is high) and then salinity decreases until a depth of about 1,000 meters. Salinity then increases again slightly with increasing depth.
The halocline are layers of water where the water's salinity changes rapidly with depth.

Put your finger on the top of the red line and trace down the red line in the picture. If your finger is moving left, salinity is getting to be less and less. Then when your finger moves to the right, the water is getting more salty.
