Frequently Asked Questions
How can I print Windows pages without the text coming out yellow?
The color scheme of our site is not always print-friendly, especially when color printers are used. To view the site with black text on a white background, click here. With most browsers it is also possible to set a fixed color scheme and have it apply to any site you visit (Edit|Preferences|Appearance|Colors in Netscape Communicator).
How can I change the content level of a particular page?
Most of our pages are written in three different "levels" of difficulty--Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced. These pages have a special button graphic at the top. Simply click on the button corresponding to the level you wish to see, and it will appear in place of the level you were viewing. Content level can also be changed by clicking on "Preference" on the navigation bar of any page (or in the top frame if you are using the framed layout).
I do not have the Shockwave plugin for my browser. How can I get it?
Our plugins page has links to many sites offering downloads of the plugins required to view the file types offered on our site, such as Macromedia Shockwave, and Apple Quicktime.
Can the Shockwave option be disabled?
Yes. Click "Preference" on the navigation bar of any page (or in the top frame if you are using the framed layout) and you will be presented with a screen for setting various view options.
What is the supplementary CD-ROM for?
The primary purpose of the supplementary CD-ROM is to improve access time for those with slower internet connections (such as a modem). No additional material is provided with the CD, and an active internet connection is still required. When viewing the site with the CD, most of the images and multimedia files are loaded directly from the CD into your browser, while the text is still fetched off of the network.
How can I order the CD-ROM?
Fill out our CD Order Form, print it, and mail it to us along with a check.
