This image shows pebbles found in the lee of a large rock. Pebbles found at the Mars Pathfinder landingsite were rounded, suggesting that water once flowed in the region, carrying rocks with it. The pebbly landscape is different from the landscape found at the Viking landing sites. The angularly-shaped rocks of the Viking landing sites can be viewed in the Viking image archive.

The finding of rounded pebbles contributes to the overall results of the Pathfinder mission, and help answer some questions.

This image shows pebbles found near a large rock. Pebbles found at the Mars Pathfinder landingsite were round in shape. This shape suggested to scientists that water once flowed in the region, carrying rocks with it. The pebbly landscape is different from the landscape found at the Viking landing sites. The squarely-shaped rocks of the Viking landing sites can be viewed in the Viking image archive.

The finding of rounded pebbles contributes to the overall results of the Pathfinder mission, and help answer some questions.
