The statue, Apollo Belvedere, was discovered near Rome in the late 1400’s. Some believe that it is a marble copy of a bronze by the Greek sculptor, Leochares. The statue has been in the Vatican since 1511 and gets its name from the location where it is displayed the Cortile del Belvedere.
