Neil Armstrong

Neil Armstrong is an American astronaut who was born in Ohio in 1930. In July of 1969, he made history by becoming the first person to walk on the moon. Before entering the space program, Armstrong was a pilot for the U.S. Navy and Air Force, flying helicopters, jets, and gliders.

He is quoted as saying, "One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind".

In 1966, Neil was command pilot of the Gemini 8 mission, which performed the first docking of two vehicles in space. Then, in July of 1969, he was commander of the Apollo 11 lunar mission and made history by becoming the first person to walk on the moon.

Armstrong's famous words from space include, "The eagle has landed" and "One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind".
