Leroy Chiao

Leroy Chiao is an American astronaut who was born on August 28, 1960, in Wisconsin. Before he became an astronaut, Chiao worked as an engineer.

Chiao became an astronaut in 1990. He has spent over 567 hours in space on two spaceflights.

Chiao's first spaceflight occurred in 1994, aboard Space Shuttle Columbia. The crew did tests on materials and life science. His second mission was aboard STS-72 in 1996. Chiao performed two spacewalks during this mission.
