Michael Clifford

Michael Clifford is an American astronaut who was born on October 13, 1952, in California. Before he became an astronaut, Clifford was a Army test pilot.

Clifford became an astronaut in 1990. He has spent over 665 hours in space on three spaceflights.

Clifford made his first spaceflight in 1992 aboard STS-53. This was a Department of Defense mission. In 1994, Clifford flew aboard STS-59. This mission studied the Earth's atmosphere.

Clifford flew aboard STS-76 in 1996. The crew conducted the third docking with the Russian space station Mir.
