Henry Hartsfield

Henry Hartsfield is an American astronaut who was born on November 21, 1933, in Alabama. Before he became an astronaut, Hartsfield was an Air Force pilot. He has flown over 7300 hours in different aircraft.

Hartsfield became an astronaut in 1969. He has spent over 483 hours in space on three spaceflights.

Hartsfield made his first flight piloting STS-4. This was the last test flight of the newly designed Space Shuttle. He commanded Mission 41-D in 1984, which was the first abort of the Shuttle program. In 1985, Hartsfield made his last spaceflight aboard Mission 61-A.
