James Wetherbee is an American astronaut who was born on November 27, 1952, in New York. Before he became an astronaut, Wetherbee was a Naval pilot.

Wetherbee became an astronaut in 1985. He has spent over 696 hours in space aboard three spacecraft.

In 1990, Wetherbee made his first spaceflight aboard STS-32. In 1992, he flew aboard STS-52.

Wetherbee made his third flight in 1995 aboard STS-63. The crew visited the Russian Mir Space Station during this mission.
