This shows a computer-generated image of a wave moving through the interior of the Sun. The red regions are where solar material is moving inward. The blue regions are where material is moving outward. The Sun may exhibit a million wave modes at any one time. This image is a representation of just one of these modes.

The Sun is made of plasma. The plasma moves from areas that are hot to areas that are less hot. In this picture, the hottest areas are red and the less hot areas blue. The plasma moves from the center of the Sun to the surface of the Sun and back.
