Desert Mammals

This is a spiny anteater. There are only three mammals that lay eggs, and the spiny anteater is one of them.

There are many species of mammals in the desert! Many of them dig holes in the ground to live in. These holes are called burrows. Rats and hamsters live in burrows.

Bigger mammals, like the wild horse, live in the desert too. Lions are strong animals that live in Africa. The spiny anteater is a special mammal because it lays eggs!

Most mammals hide during the day to stay cool. They come out at night to find food.
