Karol Bobko

Karol Bobko is an American astronaut who was born on December 23, 1937 in New York City. Before he became an astronaut, Bobko was a pilot for the Air Force.

Bobko became an astronaut in 1969. He has flown on three space missions logging over 386 hours in space.

In 1983, Bobko piloted the first flight of shuttle Challenger. In 1985, he flew aboard shuttle Discovery where he helped deploy two satellites. Bobko flew a second time in 1985, aboard the first flight of shuttle Atlantis.

Bobko retired from NASA in 1989. He is currently working on a space station with the Grumman Corporation.
