Charlie Bolden

Charlie Bolden is an American astronaut who was born on August 19, 1946 in South Carolina. Before he became an astronaut, Bolden was a pilot for the Marines. He has flown over 5000 hours on several different airplanes.

Bolden became an astronaut in 1980. He has made three spaceflights and spent over 479 hours in space.

In 1986, Bolden piloted Shuttle mission 61-C, in which astrophysics tests were performed. In 1990, Bolden flew aboard shuttle Discovery. In this mission he helped deploy the Hubble Space Telescope. In 1992, Bolden helped study the Earth's atmosphere in a Spacelab mission.
