Richard Gordon

Richard Gordon was an American astronaut who was born on October 5, 1929, in Washington. Before he became an astronaut, Gordon was a Naval test pilot. He has logged over 4500 hours of flight time.

Gordon became an astronaut in 1963. He has spent over 316 hours in space on two spaceflights.

Gordon made his first spaceflight aboard Gemini 11 in 1966. This flight set a world altitude record of 850 miles. In 1969, Gordon piloted the command module of Apollo 12. He orbited the moon while his fellow astronauts explored the surface of the moon.

Gordon left NASA in 1972. Since that time, he has owned a football team and an engineering firm.
