Richard Hieb

Richard Hieb is an American astronaut who was born on September 21, 1955, in North Dakota. Before he became an astronaut, Hieb worked as an aerospace engineer.

Hieb became an astronaut in 1985. He spent over 750 hours in space on three spaceflights.

In 1991, Hieb made his first spaceflight aboard STS-39. This was a Department of Defense mission. He flew aboard STS-49 in 1992. Hieb performed three spacewalks totalling 17 hours during this mission.

Hieb made his third flight aboard STS-65 in 1994. The crew conducted over 80 experiments during this 15-day flight.
