Ishtar Terra is one of the Plateau Highlands of Venus, is found near the north pole, and is about the size of the continental United States.
Ishtar Terra contains the four main mountain ranges of Venus named Maxwell Montes, Frejya Montes, Akna Montes, and Danu Montes. These surround the lower plain of Ishtar Terra, which is named Lakshmi Planum. Maxwell Montes is on the east coast, Akna Montes on the west coast, and Frejya Montes to the north, and Danu Montes in a portion of the south. Ishtar Terra also contains a couple of volcanoes, Sacajawea, Colette, and possibly Cleopatra. Ishtar Terra is also the sight of much tessera. Tessera may provide evidence that the planet's surface is in motion.
Ishtar Terra is named after the Near-Eastern goddess, Ishtar.
